Eling Tide Mill
|
Nestling in an idyllic enclave of rural riverland and dramatic dockland, the UK’s only working tide mill has been putting the beauty into breadmaking for nearly 900 years.
Now fans of Eling Tide Mill - which sits between Southampton and Bartley Water on the edge of the New Forest – are urging residents to rediscover the wonder of one of the world’s most unusual water mills.
Totton West Councillor Di Brooks said: “We are incredibly lucky to have this unique piece of heritage in the New Forest.
It gives a fascinating insight into a forgotten industry against the backdrop of a stunning blend of countryside and commercialism.”
As well as enjoying a visit round the mill, a trip round its heritage centre, and ship-spotting along the shores of Southampton Water, guarantees an unusual day out.
